“Thank you for the care and concern you gave to them during class and in preparation for their showcase. I was so moved by the safe space and encouragement that was provided to all of the dancers during the performances, knowing it was building a healthy and positive self-concept and boosting confidence for each of the dancers.”
-Aundrea, Youth Student’s Mom
“I had my final dance lesson before my wedding with my Dad last night and I just wanted to let you know how thrilled we all are with the lessons we had at your studio. We feel totally prepared and the lessons have really taken a lot of pressure off the big wedding dances so that we can actually enjoy them---it's fantastic.”
-Lauren, New Bride
“Everyone loved your choreography, and I hope we can work with you again next year. I can't thank you enough for your hard work with our kids. They had a blast and learned so much! Thank you again! Without your choreography, it would not have been anywhere near as good a show! Especially the nightmare scene! My plans were SO BAD! You saved that number”
-Dave, High School Drama Teacher
Available for dance and fitness related events, both of our studios have sprung hard wood floors, mirrors and sound systems. Helen is orginally from Rochester, NY and has been residing in Charlotte, NC since 2002. When Helen was just a baby, her mother opened her own dance studio, and taught youth dance classes for many years until she retired the studio when Helen was a young girl. Helen's love and passion for dance started with her mother, but it has been with her ever since as she continues to take various dance classes along her journey in life. Helen holds a BS degree in Mathematics from State University of New York at Fredonia, and obtained her Post-Graduate degree in Management and Marketing from University of College Cork in Ireland before backpacking through Europe for the Summer. She also studied abroad in Australia and travelled to New Zealand. Helen was chosen as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar of Goodwill, and was awarded a position through the Walt Disney World College Program where she had the opportunity to work and play everyday with Mickey Mouse! Today, Helen is an Assistant Preschool Teacher at Plaza Presbyterian Weekday School and is also a Fitness Trainer at YMCA and Beyond Excellence. Some of her greatest achievements, besides being a proud mother to her ten-year-old daughter, is holding a second-degree black belt in Tai Kwon-Do and competing internationally and receiving the bronze medal in sparring at the TKD World Cup competition. Helen also loves to hike and successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa back in '08. She hopes to climb more big summits in the future, but for now she is happy and content teaching little ones how they can climb to the top of their own mountain of fun and happiness by keeping healthy and fit through the joy of movement.
Amy Messer has been teaching movement and dance for many years. One of her biggest passions is children. Although she teaches all ages, she especially lights up with enthusiasm and joy while teaching children. Amy has two children of her own so she knows first hand the importance of early childhood education. She believes it is very important to learn and use the arts at a young age. Amy has been dancing since she could walk and has worked with well known choreographers such as: Mia Michaels, Tyce Diorio, Brian Friedman, Wade Robson, and Twitch to name a few. Amy believes she should be continuously growing and has always said, “You can never be satisfied as a teacher, you should always be willing to learn, grow and follow.” Therefore she has continued to take classes and study in order to better her choreography. Amy is also involved in teaching music classes with her husband in the Charlotte area. Amy, an energetic and thriving entrepreneur, runs her own business and is now teaching classes in movement, dance, and gymnastics in several schools and Art Institutes in the Charlotte area. She has been a teacher at Open Door Studios for many years as well as other studios, private and public school systems. Amy is driven to spread her love of movement not only to all of Charlotte but surrounding areas as well. She always strives to work as hard as possible in all she does. Amy is full of life and her teaching abilities speak for themselves. Her goal is to be a role model both inside and outside of the classroom. Amy's MOTTO: You should never be content in your art. You always have room to learn, teach, and grow within in the walls of your art. Be who you are and teach from the heart.
